Deacon Darrell Meter was born in Los Angeles, where he lived with his parents and three older brothers. After his high school graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy on an aircraft carrier in Vietnam. Following his years in the Navy, he married Kristy, and over the next few years they were blessed with two sons and a daughter. Darrell worked for UPS for several decades and during that time he and his family relocated to Ventura, CA. Darrell also served in the USCG Reserves, at Station Channel Islands. He retired with 22 years in the military in the mid-1990s. Some years later they moved to northern Santa Barbara County, where Darrell decided to enter diaconate training for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Kristy, too, was required to attend training in those four years, so she could understand everything that was entailed in serving as a Deacon. Darrell was ordained to the Permanent Deaconate in June 1999. After retiring from UPS, Darrell and Kristy moved further north to Oregon, where their only grandson (at that time) was growing up. They now have six grandchildren, four of whom are in Oregon. Darrell was blessed to be accepted into the Archdiocese of Portland as a Deacon, and was then assigned to St. Mark Church. He and Kristy have been married 45 years, and look forward to many more years as part of the St. Mark Community.
